Texas Governor Greg Abbott conceded the Lone Star State's gubernatorial election to Democrat challenger Gina Hinojosa.
Speaking to supporters Tuesday night, Abbott gave his concession speech, offering thanks for the support seen during his campaign.
"I want you to know how much all Texans appreciate everything you have done to keep Texas Texas," he said.
The governor, who is currently serving his third term as Texas' executive, stated he called Hinojosa to congratulate her for winning the race. He noted that votes were still being counted but mathematically, his campaign had lost.
Abbott asserted that he told the governor elect he would assist her and her team during the transitionary period.
"I love our state. It's been an honor to serve it. And know that we are leaving Texas in far better shape than it's ever been," Abbott said.
He went on to tout the accomplishments under his tenure, including relating to the business environment, the state's power grid and the Southern border.
"The story of Texas is nearly 200 years old, and one that will continue to be shaped by you and generations to come," he told supporters. "Leading this state has been the greatest honor I've ever had. Thank you for your support, thank you for your love, thank you for making Texas Texas, and God bless the great state of Texas."
