JUST IN: Democrat Amy Acton Defeats Vivek Ramaswamy for Governor of Ohio

Democrat Amy Acton has just been elected Ohio Governor, defeating Republican Vivek Ramaswamy.

At the time of writing this, Acton has a roughly 4-point lead over Ramaswamy, with 85% of the vote counted.

Decision Desk HQ was the first to declare her the projected winner in the closely-watched race:

Take a look at the full election results via NBC News:

As you may know, the Ohio governor race was shaken up in the days leading up to the election by a brutal ad run by Ramaswamy's campaign.

The ad featured Acton's own mother urging voters not to elect her.

NBC News has more:

The race became hostile in its closing days after Ramaswamy's campaign produced and aired an attack ad featuring Acton's estranged mother.

Acton, 60, is the first woman to be elected governor of the state. Former Lt. Gov. Nancy Hollister served as governor for 11 days in 1999 after Republican Gov. George Voinovich moved on to the Senate.

She is also the first Democrat to win Ohio's governorship since Ted Strickland won a single four-year term in 2006. Since then, the state has moved decisively to the right and backed Donald Trump by comfortable margins in three straight presidential elections.

Ramaswamy, 41, lost despite an endorsement from Trump and having top strategists from the president's and Vice President JD Vance's political teams advising him and an aligned super PAC.

Acton will succeed term-limited Gov. Mike DeWine, a Republican whom she served under as health director during the early days of the Covid pandemic.

This is a stunning turn of events. Basically, Ohio just voted for Kamala 2.0 as governor…

Hope they are happy with their decision! Are you surprised by Acton's win?
