Senator Marsha Blackburn has officially been elected to become Tennessee's first female governor, defeating Democrat opponent Jerri Green.

With 98% of the total votes counted, Blackburn (R-Tenn.) won with 950,259 votes or 45% on Tuesday, dominating Green's (D-Tenn.) 902,546 votes or 43%, according to the Associated Press.

Blackburn, who was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018, has a long history in politics, having served in the House of Representatives and in Tennessee's state Senate. With the backing of President Donald Trump, she ran on a platform of supporting the Volunteer State's economic growth, cutting wasteful government spending, slashing taxes, improving infrastructure and supporting Tennessee farmers, according to her campaign website.

She also ran against far-left policies, highlighting initiatives to protect women's sports, stem illegal immigration, protect parental rights, combat "woke anti-American curriculum," protect the right to life, defend the Second Amendment, and safeguard election integrity through party registration measures for primary elections.

Green, whom Trump referred to as a "radical, pro-crime public defender" and a "lunatic," was Shelby County's chief public defender before serving on the Memphis City Council. She ran on a platform of supporting working families, strengthening and funding public schools, improving health care access, implementing "common-sense" gun laws, supporting environmental policies, instituting a data center moratorium, and expanding access for prenatal and postpartum care, per her campaign website.

She also campaigned on protecting purported "reproductive freedom," pledging to sign an executive order "to ensure doctors can practice women's healthcare without the fear of prosecution or prison." Additionally, her platform called for ending cooperation between the Tennessee Highway Patrol and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
