Former Major League Baseball player Mark Teixeira is now headed to Capitol Hill in January after he won a House race in Texas on Tuesday night.
Teixeira, who is a Republican and will represent the state's 21st congressional district, is a three-time MLB all-star who played for the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees. He is replacing Texas GOP Rep. Chip Roy in the House.
Thank you to my family, friends, campaign staff, and the countless supporters who stood with us during this campaign. We could not have won this race without every person who knocked on doors, worked the polls, hosted events, and pitched in to help the cause. I am truly grateful… pic.twitter.com/64fcE7z3DJ

The Republican's victory comes after President Donald Trump endorsed him earlier this year. The district is typically considered a safe conservative district and Teixeira defeated Democrat Kristin Hook in a 54% to 45% split.
