Hero dad heard in chilling 911 audio pleading for help before rushing into daughters' school with gun to stop active shooter

Hero dad heard in chilling 911 audio pleading for help before rushing into daughters' school with gun to stop active shooter

The heroic father who sprang into action when a teenage gunman broke into his daughters' elementary school was heard in a frantic 911 call pleading for help.

Kaylub Giamanco, 36, went on to shoot Griffin John II, 16, dead after the teen killed three special needs children and one teacher at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend, Oregon on October 15.

He previously described how he was driving home from lunch when he saw John shooting at a red vehicle in front of him before the teen threw his rifle over a fence and headed toward the school.

The terrifying sight prompted Giamanco to grab his handgun from the center console and load the magazine, and call 911.

As soon as the dispatcher answered, the father-of-two could be heard in newly-released audio from the phone call saying: 'Oh my God.'

'Someone's at the school, at my daughters' school with a gun,' he said. 'I have a gun and I will shoot them right now if I have to.'

The dispatcher then told Giamanco not to do anything and to wait for police.

At that point, Giamanco could be heard talking over the dispatcher as he grew increasingly frustrated.

'This is my daughters' school,' he cried out, before declaring: 'I'm about to go kill this kid.'

But the dispatcher kept Giamanco talking, asking what race the suspect was and whether he had made his way into the school.

He then confirmed that the shooter had entered the elementary school and that he could hear gunshots.

'God d*** it, they're f***ing shooting people,' the father said.

At that point, the dispatcher tried to get more information from Giamanco, and informed him 'we have help en route.'

Giamanco, though, had already stopped speaking with the sheriff's office as he ran toward the building.

Meanwhile, a teacher inside tried to stop John, throwing her phone at the attacker, tackling him to the ground and wrestling with him for control of his rifle, KATU reports.

That is when Giamanco entered the school through an open window, walked through the door of the special needs classroom and fired his gun, dropping the shooter to the floor.

Giamanco has since called the teacher, identified as certified learning specialist Cassidy Schutz, a 'real hero' because her actions gave him an opening to shoot the attacker.

Schutz, meanwhile, said in a statement last week there were no words to describe the sadness she feels.

'This is not a story. This is a horrific and heartbreaking tragedy and it is our real lives,' she said. 'My thoughts are with those who were lost, their families, those who were hurt and those who were there that day. My heart is with you.'

She went on to say her focus is on the families, the school 'and my own healing.'

A second teacher in the classroom, Becky Drury, previously said she never had a chance to shelter the children inside when John broke in.

She said she had tried to shut the door behind her, but John was already there.

'Before I could do anything more, he shot me at close range, and I fell to the ground,' Drury recounted.

She was shot in her left hand and right arm. Unable to get up, she said she pretended to be dead in the hopes that John would not shoot her again.

Saylor Graham, seven, was also injured, while five-year-old Rhoam Summer and teacher Megan Lambert were killed along with two other students who have not been publicly identified.

A motive for the attack remains unclear, but John had previously attended the school and had been bullied at times.

He came from a tumultuous family background, and was assaulted at least twice.

The killer then used a gun his mother had purchased around his 16th birthday in August, but law enforcement remains unsure how he obtained his ammunition, saying the investigation was 'very active.'

Giamanco, however, holds a concealed carry license to protect his family.
