A man suspected of killing a mother who was found dead in a Georgia hotel room while on a work conference was arrested nearly three weeks after the victim's body was found surrounded by alcohol bottles.
Melissa Ruth Tibbetts, 45, was found dead in Room 2519 at the Loews Hotel in Atlanta on October 14, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Emmanuel Poindexter, 39, was identified as a suspect on October 22, but he was not taken into custody until Monday. He was found receiving medical treatment in Gwinnett County for a self-inflicted knife wound.
Tibbetts worked as an Executive Assistant for ACM Chemistries, her obituary said.
She was in Atlanta for a work conference, according to WSBTV.
ACM Chemistries contacted hotel security after she failed to show up for a meeting the day after she was killed.
Investigators discovered that the night before, room service was ordered to her room for two people, according to WSBTV. Multiple drink containers were also found in the room.
There were no surveillance cameras in the hallways and other hotel cameras were down, investigators told WSBTV.
Poindexter is accused of striking Tibbetts multiple times and breaking her hyoid bone, which was one of the injuries that ultimately caused her death, according to arrest warrants obtained by The Daily Mail.

'We find comfort in knowing that her adventurous spirit, her love for the ocean, and the special bond she shared with her son will always be part of her beautiful story,' Melissa Ruth Tibbetts' family wrote on GoFundMe
