Democrat Aaron Ford has won the Nevada gubernatorial race, unseating Republican incumbent Joseph Lombardo.
With 87% of the total vote counted by the Associated Press, Ford obtained 506,653 votes or 51% in Tuesday's election, defeating Lombardo's 432,732 votes or 44%.
Throughout his re-election campaign, Lombardo, a former law enforcement officer and sheriff of Clark County, highlighted his accomplishments as the Silver State's governor, including securing Rainy Day Fund savings and cutting state regulations, according to his campaign site.
He also emphasized his record supporting job growth and economic investment, delivering educational funding, securing pay increases for law enforcement, reducing crime and increasing penalties for certain offenses, reducing business taxes and establishing the Nevada Health Authority "to ensure access to affordable, reliable health care" for the state's residents.
Lombardo ran with the endorsement of President Donald Trump, who stated on Truth Social that he "strongly supports our incredible Law Enforcement, Military, and Veterans, and knows the Wisdom and Courage it takes to Promote LAW AND ORDER."

Ford, Nevada's attorney general and former state senator, also touted his career accomplishments, which encompassed fighting to raise pay for state police and public employees, expanding the collective bargaining rights for many Nevada workers, delivering over $1 billion in opioid crisis settlements and prosecuting corporate landlords for illegal rent hikes, according to his campaign website.
He underscored his efforts to crack down on fentanyl traffickers and ghost guns, protect "reproductive freedom in court," and standing up both to the Trump and Biden administrations.
Ford's platform focused on affordable and accessible housing, healthcare, clean and affordable energy, not providing tax breaks for data centers — and requiring them to provide their own energy, water and infrastructure — economic development and fighting for education.
