One of the most infuriating things about the Biden years was the shameless, nonstop insistence, from the president himself, Treasury Sec.
Janet Yellen, and members of the White House economic council that the red-hot, post-COVID inflation was a temporary trend that would soon wane, thanks to the administration's Inflation Reduction Act. No one bought the spin, because Americans have eyes and could see, very clearly, their grocery, gas, and utility bills steadily increasing as the country emerged from the pandemic. Yet, the administration's gaslighting continued, unfettered. Look at the charts, they said. Look at the data! Inflation is temporary. It was Groundhog Day: an endless, recurring absurdity.
Of course, Republicans had an absolute field day, and, daily, slammed the Biden White House for lying to Americans about rising prices (as well as lying about the fact that Biden was senile, but that's another story). But the early 2020s have come and gone, and now Republicans, still in power as of Tuesday, are stuck in a similar position as Biden and the Democratic Party were ahead of the 2022 midterms. The Iran War has triggered even higher prices, and global shipping costs appear to be getting more (and permanently) expensive. Americans are paying a hefty price for another Middle East war, yet few Republicans have had the temerity to acknowledge — really acknowledge— not only their pain but how it is a direct result of a bungled military intervention. Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is a rare exception. (RELATED: Hidden Cost Of War That Trickles Down To Your Grocery Bill Set To Explode In 2027)
