Potent Nor’easter Bomb Cyclone To Blast Northeast With Largest Snowstorm In Years

Millions of Americans across the Interstate 95 corridor throughout the Northeast are getting prepared to be heavily impacted by a potent nor’easter bomb cyclone that will generate large amounts of snow in a strong portion of the region beginning Sunday.

The forecasts for snowfall have once again increased, turning the developing system into one of the largest snowstorm risks in years for key cities in the Northeast such as New York City, according to the FOX Forecast Center.

The system will begin to crystallize Sunday afternoon as a low-pressure area quickly intensifies while shifting away from the North Carolina coast.

Per forecast data, the track of the nor’easter is around the East Coast in a “too close for comfort” situation. and beginning in the evening hours Sunday, the storm could bring heavy snowfall from Virginia up towards Maine. (RELATED: Puerto Rico Gets Shook By Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake)

The elements of significant snow and strong winds mixing are anticipated to produce critical blizzard conditions throughout the southeast region of New England.

New York City will face a blizzard warning for the first time in around 10 years, which will initiate Sunday night for an event that will be highly impactful. Within the Big Apple, wind gusts could potentially reach up to 55 mph. The blizzard warnings extend down to the shore of New Jersey.

Another major city, Boston, as well as the entirety of Rhode Island are also under a Blizzard Warning.

New York City, Boston and Philadelphia could see snowfall amounts of 18-24 inches from Sunday night through Monday as a result of the storm.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, snow totals will be less in areas that are further inland.

Across the Jersey Shore, snowfall between more than 2 feet is expected. A State of Emergency has been declared in New Jersey by Gov. Mike Sherrill, which comes into effect 12:00 p.m. local time Sunday.

Following suit was New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who issued a State of Emergency in New York across 22 counties. That order will officially be in place Sunday morning.

Into Monday, Baltimore will see around 8-12 inches of snow.

A lot of uncertainties remain in regards to the Washington D.C. forecast.

At the current time, it’s forecast that the city will experience 5-18 inches of snowfall.

NOR’EASTER BOMBOGENESIS

Adding to the common traits of a nor’easter, the system will eventually undergo bombogenesis with the system’s central pressure dropping 24 millibars within 24 hours.

At that point, the storm’s characteristics will be that of both a nor’easter and bomb cyclone.

Weather will rapidly worsen Monday throughout New England as significant nor’easter conditions get settled in with heavy snowfall and strong winds.

In Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts, there will be a high potential for blizzard conditions, per the FOX Forecast Center.

Due to the winds, potentially unleashing vicious gusts up to 70 mph, there will be the possibility for widespread power outages.

As the pressure gradient grips the building low pressure, a continuing fetch of powerful northeasterly winds will persist in driving water towards the shore, according to the FOX Forecast Center.

The life-threatening storm surge will increase water levels, causing flooding that will be minor to moderate at high tide, particularly in eastern Massachusetts.

Strong waves triggered by powerful winds will hammer the shorelines, causing major erosion to beaches that could reach as south as North Carolina’s Outer Banks, a region that has been dealing with consecutive beachfront house collapses as a result of erosion.

In Delaware up towards Maine, coastal areas are under coastal flood warnings starting Sunday night and not concluding until Tuesday.

During the daytime hours Monday, New York City and to its west will see snowfall end.

Into Monday night, Long Island through Maine will be impacted by snowfall.

Per the FOX Forecast Center, the snowfall in the Northeast will come to an end for the whole region by Tuesday morning.
