Justice Department charges foreign national with voting illegally in Nevada election

The Justice Department announced Friday that a foreign national has been charged with voting illegally in the state of Nevada.

First Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Nevada Sigal Chattah said Jullie Ann Sumalinog Moore illegally voted in the 2024 election. The department did not indicate what country Moore is originally from.

"Let me be absolutely clear: if you are a noncitizen and you cast a ballot in our elections, you are committing a federal crime," Chattah said in a statement. "We will not hesitate to use the full weight of federal law enforcement to investigate, indict, and prosecute anyone who attempts to compromise the integrity of our elections.

"I commend our partners at the FBI and [Homeland Security Investigations] for their diligence, assistance and unwavering commitment to ensuring our elections remain fair and free from unlawful interference," she added.

The maximum penalty for the charge is one year of imprisonment, a fine of up to $100,000, or both.

Moore has not made an initial court appearance so far and no date for her appearance has been scheduled yet.
