White House Drops Blunt Election Day Message: ‘Common Sense Or Communism’

The White House did not close Election Day with a focus-grouped slogan.

It drew the line in five words: "Common sense or communism."

That is about as direct as it gets. President Trump has spent the closing stretch arguing that Americans are not choosing between two slightly different management styles.

They are choosing whether the country keeps moving back toward order, strength and national sanity — or hands power to a Democrat Party racing farther left.

Here was the first shot from the White House:

Fox News reports that voters are deciding control of Congress, with every House seat and a long list of Senate contests in play. The biggest fights stretch from Alaska and Iowa to Maine, Michigan, Ohio and Texas.

Republicans entered Election Day defending narrow advantages, which means a small number of races can change who controls each chamber. A Republican Congress can keep moving President Trump's nominees and legislation; a Democrat-controlled chamber would gain subpoena power and the ability to choke off his agenda.

The live coverage also shows why the White House is making a national argument instead of treating this as a collection of local races. The next Congress will decide whether America First policies keep moving through Washington during the final two years of President Trump's term.

The White House followed with an even sharper warning. Patriotism and communism are not compatible, and Americans should stop pretending the radical left's program is just another ordinary policy menu.

CBS News reports that more than 57 million Americans voted early before Election Day. The network's final campaign coverage followed the House, Senate and governor races that will decide how much room President Trump has to govern.

President Trump used his final scheduled remarks to tell supporters that Republicans could win decisively if they turned out. He also warned that losing Congress would invite gridlock, investigations and two years of resistance from Democrats.

The early-vote total shows how much of the electorate made its choice before polls opened Tuesday, but millions of votes still remained. That is why the White House kept pressing its closing message through Election Day instead of treating the race as finished.

This is the choice the establishment spent years trying to blur. Secure borders or surrender.

Equal law or political prosecution. American energy and industry or permanent dependence.

Peace through strength or weakness dressed up as sophistication.

The White House closed its sequence with confidence.

That confidence still has to become votes.

The message is blunt because the moment is blunt: choose common sense, choose patriotism, and give President Trump the Congress he needs to keep putting America First.
