BREAKING: Democrat Senator Hospitalized After Suffering Stroke

BREAKING: Democrat Senator Hospitalized After Suffering Stroke

Days away from midterms, Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut has been hospitalized following a stroke.

Sen. Murphy was rushed to the hospital on Saturday after experiencing numbness in his arm during his son's hockey game.

He is only 53 years old.

In a statement, his team expressed hopefulness that he will make a full recovery.

Read the full statement from Sen. Murphy's office here:

Chris Murphy's chief says the 53-year-old Democratic senator had a stroke.

"Yesterday afternoon, Senator Murphy started experiencing numbness in his arm while at his son's hockey game. He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke. He was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment. The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery."

Sen. Murphy has been floated as a potential Democrat presidential candidate for 2028.

In case you are wondering, yes, he is COVID-vaccinated:

He is not the only Senator to suffer from health issues recently.

Politico noted:

Murphy, who is viewed as a potential 2028 White House candidate, has been traveling the country to campaign for candidates, including recent stops in Michigan, Minnesota and Florida. He had been previously scheduled to attend campaign events in New Hampshire on Sunday.

His staff began notifying people Saturday afternoon of the hospitalization and stroke, a person told POLITICO at the time.

Murphy is the latest lawmaker to face public health issues while in office. Former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was hospitalized earlier this year and absent from the Capitol for months. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-N.J.) also had an unexplained monthslong absence that he later said was due to depression.

Murphy is one of several sitting senators who have experienced strokes in recent years.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said in 2022 that he had been hospitalized by a minor stroke. Sen. Ben Ray Lujan (D-N.M.) was also hospitalized that same year for a stroke. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), then a Senate candidate, also had a stroke in 2022 that he later described as near fatal. Then-Sen. Mark Kirk, a Republican of Illinois, suffered a stroke in 2012.

Sen. John Fetterman, who was hospitalized after a life-threatening stroke himself back in 2022, shared a message for Sen. Murphy and his family on X:

Fox News provided additional coverage in this clip:

Regardless of which side of the political aisle you are on, this is sad news.

Please keep Sen. Murphy and his family in your prayers.
