Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) was hospitalized after suffering a stroke while attending his son's hockey game on Saturday.

Allison Herwitt, Murphy's chief of staff, said the incident occurred on Halloween afternoon.

"Yesterday afternoon, Senator Murphy started experiencing numbness in his arm while at his son's hockey game. He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke," Herwitt said in a statement, according to Politico. "He was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment."

Murphy has been floated as a potential 2028 presidential contender and has been traveling across the country campaigning for Democrat candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

"The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery," Murphy's office added.

Murphy had been scheduled to attend campaign events in New Hampshire on Sunday, Politico reported. On Saturday afternoon, his staff began notifying people of his hospitalization.
