"He gets it. very good politically, and he's a very good manager," Trump told reporters outside the White House. "He'll do a great job. Great manager."
Miller has long been a central figure in the administration's policy operation and is known for his forceful defense of Trump's America First agenda.
Trump praised Wiles but offered little explanation for replacing her.
"I think Susie's done a very good job, great job," Trump said. "But I just wanted to make it. Stephen's been great, and we got to make moves. Sometimes in life you have to make moves."
Asked what he wanted Miller to accomplish immediately, Trump said: "Just run things well."
Trump announced Friday that Miller, who has served as deputy chief of staff and one of his closest advisers, would take over as chief of staff beginning Monday, November 9. Wiles, who said Friday would be her last day in the position, will move to Trump's political operation.
