Texas dad, 52, arrived to deliver diapers for son, then shot infant's grandmother dead, before turning gun on himself

A Texas father's visit to deliver diapers for his eight-month-old son turned deadly after he shot the child's grandmother dead, injured the infant and turned the gun on himself.

Houston police said Rodney Bob, 52, had arrived at an apartment complex at 7700 Willow Chase Boulevard on Saturday around 7.35pm when an argument erupted with his baby boy's 19-year-old mother, KHOU reported.

Bob then pulled out a gun and shot the child's grandmother, 37-year-old Karie Rae Thomas, in the back.

He proceeded to shoot the baby in the abdomen before taking his own life, per the report.

As of Monday, the child was in critical condition but stable. More details about his injuries were not reported.

The baby's mother was not hurt and rushed her son out of the northwest Houston apartment complex.

As of Tuesday, it was not known what the argument leading up to the apparent murder-suicide was about. The incident was under investigation.

Bob was identified by the Harris County medical examiner's office, while grieving family confirmed Thomas's identity.

Bob's daughter said she wished 'things had turned out differently.'

'I wish we weren't having to grieve two family members under these circumstances,' the daughter, who was not identified, told KHOU.

Bob's daughter added that he had struggled with his mental health but that it was not an excuse for his actions.

Police officers performed CPR on Thomas after reporting to the apartment complex, according to Click2Houston.

Officers applied a chest seal before she was taken to the hospital by the Houston Fire Department.

The grandmother died at the hospital, while Bob was already dead when he was found.

The incident is being investigated by the Houston Police Department, which did not have any updates to provide to the Daily Mail as of Tuesday afternoon

Neighbor Patrick Francis said he was concerned for the baby's mom after the death of her own mother, Thomas, and her son's injuries.

'I don't know how she's going to live with that,' Francis told the outlet. 'That's devastating.'

Prudence Holt, a neighbor who lives two floors below the apartment where the apparent murder-suicide happened, said 'nothing' usually happened in the building.

Holt said members of her family heard three gunshots and some of them started screaming.

'It's scary right now,' Holt told KTRK. 'But he's gone, so everybody's fine.'

Houston police told the Daily Mail that it had no updates to provide on the investigation and referred inquiries about the victims' identities to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, which acts as the medical examiner's office.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences for comment.
