A Missouri man was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison after dragging a female Amazon driver from her van and shooting her in the head during a road-rage confrontation.
Thomas Coy, 66, was sentenced during a court hearing on November 2 after pleading guilty to killing Jasmine Taylor, a 23-year-old Amazon driver, in Lawrence County, Missouri on February 5, 2025.
According to Lawrence County 39th District court documents, Coy was charged with murder in the 2nd degree and armed criminal action.
A Lawrence County Sheriff's Office probable cause affidavit said Taylor was delivering packages on County Road near Highway 97 when she was shot around 4pm.
Lieutenant Chris D Berry, Lawrence County Detective Division Commander, said in the affidavit that he watched a video from the Amazon delivery truck showing Taylor slumped in the driver seat while the vehicle came up to a nearby driveway.
'The residence was ID as the home of Thomas Coy. Mr. Coy was contacted and advised Miranda rights and confessed to shooting [Taylor] with a pellet rifle and saw the vehicle crash into the fence,' according to the affidavit document.
When questioned by investigators, Coy allegedly admitted to 'going to the Amazon vehicle and taking [Taylor] from the seat [and] laying [Taylor] in the ditch roadside.'
Officers were notified that Taylor was then taken to Mercy Joplin Hospital after suffering a bullet wound.

Doctors then discovered Taylor still had a bullet lodged in her head and she was pronounced dead from her injuries at the hospital.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Office, for comments from Darlene Parrigon, the attorney representing Coy.
'It's very emotional because of the senselessness of what occurred. It just makes no sense why someone could be so angry to do something like this,' Lieutenant Berry told Ozark First.
'It's very scary, certainly. And it's very, very different. They did not know each other at all.'
'He saw the person going down the road, retreat to his place of residence, retrieved the pellet rifle and then waited for them to come back' he said.
Taylor's friends and family have since shared on social media the impact of her loss on their community.

'Today my sister Jasmine Taylor got the justice she deserved. While he heard our statements, the Judge made him watch the video of my sisters final moments on this earth knowing he caused it,' Kristian Bassett, Taylor's sister, wrote in a Facebook statement.
'Now the grieving begins for our family so we can continue on and keep her in our hearts forever.'
