In the face of attacks over the Iran war and a push for impeachment in Congress, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is standing strong.
On Thursday, he posted a video message on social media, defiantly declaring that he "won't back down" after all that's been achieved so far.

As you know, ever since I walked up these very steps nearly two years ago, President Trump's War Department has never been afraid to lead the way. Just like the president, we don't back down, and that especially applies now. The next few months and years are critical for our department and our republic. This is about the president's America First agenda. This is about our department's peace through strength agenda. And in just two short years, under the leadership of President Trump, we have restored the Department of War to its core function: war fighting. We ripped out DEI, fired failed leaders, restored deterrence all around the globe, revived recruiting to historic levels, and we are rebuilding our military and defense industrial base—bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. But why do the Democrats and the deep state radicals really hate us? Because we tore down their sacred cows one by one and without apology. DEI is a Marxist ideology built to destroy us. So we crushed it. Diversity is not our strength. Our unity is. Men and women, they're not the same thing, but in the military they must be held to the same standard. Strong young men who believe in something greater than themselves are admirable. Patriot extremism—it's not a thing. Patriots are now in control. Being trans is a mental illness incompatible with military service. Combating climate change is not a military objective. Military bases should not be renamed after "white rage" understandings. The faith of our founding fathers has a place in our formations. Generals work for elected civilians, not the Pentagon bureaucracy. The press is free in America, but it is not free to roam our classified spaces here at the Pentagon. Drug traffickers and terrorists should die, not be captured and released. Our allies must share the burden, not be a burden themselves. Securing the border and mass deportation operations are military missions. When we say that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon, we actually mean it, and we will do the hard work to ensure it under the leadership of President Trump. You see, regardless of how people feel about the war—which I believe is a courageous and historic effort that will ensure Iran never gets a nuclear weapon—we need to continue, as President Trump did in his first term, to rebuild our military. That requires funding. The Department of War must be funded to meet the demands of this moment right now. This includes a generational investment and a reconciliation bill worth at least $350 billion to keep this department, and our country, at the forefront in a dangerous world. We need every vote from every patriotic member of Congress. As you can see, they are attacking me and attacking us because we are effective. It won't work. We will not back down. We put America and the warfighter first, always and without apology. This fight continues in the outgoing Congress, especially with regard to our historic and extremely important budget. Joe Biden and Lloyd Austin left our country and this department in a terrible state, and we have had to fight every day to get it back. We have put an end to the alien and extremist agendas and strengthened patriotism and power. And we did that, as I said, without hesitation. Peace through strength is once again American military policy. Our commander-in-chief requests it, and we carry it out. It's not about me, but of course the other side, if you've noticed, are obsessed. A disgruntled and defeated member of Congress, along with his Democratic allies, also introduced sham articles of impeachment against me—just as they tried with President Trump twice. As you can see, their policies are not working. Therefore, their obsession with political theater disguised as power drives them to try to destroy their opponents. It's all about the politics of personal destruction. It didn't work with President Trump and it won't work with me. You can rest assured of that.To the troops: do not hesitate, ignore the noise, and never stop. As you can see, this is all just politics. You are doing real work. So keep going. As always, President Trump is leading the way. In service to our nation, he has endured what no one can imagine. He literally took a bullet for this nation. He shook his fist and said, "Fight, fight, fight." And so will we. And I'll assure you, we have only just begun to fight. We are more determined than ever, more resolute than ever to finish what we have started. We will stand. We will fight. And we will defend this republic from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Godspeed and keep going.
Hegseth's video comes in the wake of a Democrat "blue tsunami" in the midterms.
Come January, Democrats will have control of both the House and the Senate.
And, they already have Hegseth in their sights, plotting to oust him.
When Congress returns next week, Rep. Thomas Massie plans to bring a vote on impeaching Hegseth (unless Hegseth willingly resigns.) More on that here:
Thomas Massie Announces Impeachment Showdown Against Pete Hegseth — With One Big Condition
But, Hegseth isn't bothered at all.
He's fully committed to finishing what he's started and is calling on patriots in Congress to approve the Pentagon's defense funding.
Fox News has more:
Hegseth dismissed the impeachment push as political theater while defending his efforts to overhaul the Pentagon and advance President Donald Trump's military agenda.
"We need every vote from every patriotic member of Congress," Hegseth said, calling for a reconciliation bill of at least $350 billion to strengthen the military and defense industrial base.
The impeachment effort is being led by Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who introduced eight articles against Hegseth in September, accusing him of violating congressional war powers during the Iran conflict and abusing his authority in other military operations.
Massie, who lost his Republican primary in May, plans to renew the effort when Congress returns next week. The House has not voted on the articles.
Trump defended Hegseth on Thursday, telling ABC News he intends to keep him in his Cabinet despite the impeachment push.
Hegseth dismissed the effort as politically motivated.
"A disgruntled, defeated congressman along with all his Democrat allies, has also dropped sham articles of impeachment against yours truly," Hegseth said.
