CNN's Tapper Deems Mamdani 'Kingmaker' For Support Of 3 Victorious Anti-Israel Candidates
Steve MalzbergNow that their role in bringing about the blue wave has been successfully completed, and the celebrations are settling down, the left wing media has been platforming many of the winning candidates and those elected officials who helped get them elected. That was the case Wednesday evening on CNN's Election Night In America, where co-host Jake Tapper fawned all over NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, while tossing softball after softball to him.
On the 8pm edition of the show, Tapper greeted the radical leftist Mayor with, "You've been a kingmaker in New York politics, all three House candidates that you backed are going to become members of Congress in January. Two of them were Democratic socialists, but they're going to be joined by a lot of moderates who were also elected last night. Whose message were voters endorsing do you think last night when Democrats got this huge sweep?"
Tapper could have gone a lot further in his description of the three Mamdani-backed candidates, but did not, and that would become relevant later in the interview when Tapper would ask him about Jewish voters. But first there were more softballs like, "When you were first elected, a lot of Republicans were giddy. They thought you could make you something of a boogeyman they could use to hurt Democrats across the country. How do you think that went?"
Talk about lobbing it in there! Even Tapper's final question to Mamdani regarding Jewish voters was sugar-coated.

TAPPER: Democrats are giddy today with the election results, but I have heard some Jewish Democrats broadly happy about the results last night, but also concerned about some of the Democrats who were elected, concerns that some of them not only hostile to the existence of the Jewish state, Israel. But some of them have said and done things that imply they're maybe not particularly concerned with anti- Semitism in America.
You represent the biggest population of Jews outside of Israel. Have you heard that today? What would you say to anybody expressing such concerns?
Tapper then allowed Mamdani to skate, uninterrupted.
MAMDANI: Well, I would say to anyone expressing those concerns is the point of winning power is to deliver for everyone, and that includes those who are euphoric at the results and those who are concerned by the results. I can tell you that one of the things I'm so proud of, as you said, is I represent the most Jewish city in the United States of America. And I know that there are some Jewish New Yorkers, for example, that may have a different set of opinions on Israel and Palestine, as I do. And that doesn't mean that I work any less hard to deliver for them across the board. And I think that's the same truth for anyone who is elected last night. It's not to ask for agreement on every issue. It's to understand our responsibility is to them as constituents and as people who help to make this city, this country, exactly what it is. Which is the greatest place on earth.
So how did Tapper follow up on that speech? He did not. He did not mention the fact that in New York City, anti-Jewish offenses have jumped by 8% and accounted for more than half of the confirmed hate crimes within the first eight months of this year, despite Jewish New Yorkers only accounting for about 10% of the city's population.
He did not mention that according to the New York Post, "a coalition of more than 25 Big Apple-based Jewish community groups is ripping Mayor Zohran Mamdani's new plan to combat antisemitism, claiming it deliberately ignores hatred targeting Jews and Israel."
And remember Tapper's earlier reference to the three victorious New York Congressional candidates, all backed by "kingmaker" Mamdani? Tapper left out the anti-Israel activism of all three.
According to The Times of Israel, Brad Lander, "often accuses Israel of genocide and was briefly detained by Israeli forces last month while picking olives with an activist group in the West Bank." Darializa Avila Chevalier, "attended a celebratory anti-Israel rally the day after October 7.... and refused to condemn Hamas and the attack during her campaign." And according to Israel Hayom, Claire Valdez, "accuses Israel of genocide and calls for ending all arms sales and military aid."
Are viewers supposed to believe that the esteemed journalist Jake Tapper had no clue about all of this? So how did Tapper follow-up Mamdani's non-answer? With a little sports zinger, of course.
TAPPER: New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, thank you so much. And just one note -- the Sixers have beat the Knicks twice already this season.
Wow! Even CNN should be ashamed!
