Heroic Teacher Who Tackled & Wrestled Oregon School Shooter Speaks Out

Earlier this month, a horrific tragedy took place in Bend, OR when 16-year-old gunman Griffin John II targeted a special needs classroom at Silver Rail Elementary School.

The shooter killed four people, as well as wounding other victims, before he was fatally shot by a father who bravely charged into the school to confront him.

We've already heard from Kaylub Giamanco, the father who took out the school shooter:

But, there was another hero that day.

After the gunman opened fire, a teacher bravely threw her phone at him before tackling him to the ground.

When Giamanco arrived on the scene, this courageous teacher was trying to wrestle the gun away from the shooter.

On Friday, this heroic teacher, whose name is Cassidy Schutz, spoke out for the first time.

Take a look:

An Oregon teacher who threw her cellphone at a teenage gunman and wrestled him for control of his shotgun has spoken publicly for the first time.

Cassidy Schutz, a learning specialist at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, released a statement more than two weeks after the Oct. 15 shooting that killed three children and a fellow teacher.

"This is not a story. This is a horrific and heartbreaking tragedy, and it is our real lives," Schutz said. "It all happened so fast, and I wish with everything in me that we had more time. The pain of this loss I will carry with me forever."

KATU 2 ABC shared Schutz' full message:

"There are no words to describe the depth of sadness I am feeling following the events of October 15th. This is not a story. This is a horrific and heartbreaking tragedy, and it is our real lives. My thoughts are with those who were lost, their families, those who were hurt, and those who were there that day. My heart is with you. It all happened so fast, and I wish with everything in me that we had more time. The pain of this loss I will carry with me forever. There are no words for this unimaginable reality we are facing. My focus is on these families, our team, our school, and my own healing. As I continue to navigate this, I ask that you please give me the time, space, and privacy I need to heal. I will not be making any additional public statements at this time."

Previously, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz credited Schutz with helping take down the shooter.

Her actions, along with Kaylub Giamanco's, that day saved countless lives.

God Bless them both!
