United States Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated her GOP opponent Diamant Hysenaj, securing a fifth term in the House representing New York's 14th Congressional District.
With 95% of the votes counted, AOC won 78% of the votes in Tuesday's election while Hysenaj received 21%, according to the Associated Press.
The 37-year-old Democratic Socialist spent the majority of the lead up to the midterm elections campaigning for other Democrats, including New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.), Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed (D-Mich.) and Senator-elect Angie Nixon (D-Fla.) — all of which celebrated wins on Tuesday evening.
AOC's landslide victory comes after she donated $300,000 to New York State Democrats and transferred $1 million to the Abdul for Michigan Victory Fund.
Her victory also comes amid reports she is considering a run for president or the U.S. Senate, a decision she said she will make after midterm elections.
