Progressive candidate Nithya Raman defeated Mayor Karen Bass and will lead the city of Los Angeles after a protracted vote tally.
The Associated Press called the race for Raman at 2:49 p.m. on Thursday, at which time Raman held 52.1% of the vote to Bass's 47.9%.
Bass's tenure was marred by her response to wildfires that ravaged the city and came as progressive candidates generally surged across the country.
The LA Mayor's race drew rare attention from Republicans this year due to the candidacy of Spencer Pratt, who ran as an outsider, but ultimately failed to make the general election.
