A 31-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly drove a ute into a barrier near the Gold Coast 500 event, leaving a security guard injured and requiring hospital treatment.
Shortly before 9pm on Friday, emergency services were called following reports of a Toyota Hilux being driven dangerously along the Esplanade at Surfers Paradise.
It came to a stop near a metal barrier at the intersection with Staghorn Avenue, according to Queensland Police.
'The Toyota is alleged to have then been driven deliberately into the barrier, causing it to fall and injure a 40-year-old Labrador man,' a police statement said.
The 40-year-old, who is understood to be a security guard, was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.
The Gold Coast 500 is an annual three-day Supercars event that attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators.
More to come.
