Ivanka Trump's lavish birthday trip as the president braced for midterms hammering... and the staggering hotel bill her security team left for US taxpayers

US taxpayers spent nearly $100,000 on luxury hotel rooms for Ivanka Trump's security detail as she vacationed in Morocco on her 45th birthday, the Daily Mail can reveal.

The president's daughter, whose estimated net worth is between $50 million and $100 million, was spotted strolling through Marrakech by local media on October 29, days before her father and the Republicans suffered a brutal loss in the midterms.

Federal procurement records obtained by the Daily Mail show two contracts totaling $93,000 for agents to stay and scope out a pair of five-star hotels ahead of the visit.

On October 21, a $59,543 contract was issued for hotel rooms at the five-star Sofitel in Marrakech for a Secret Service advance team preparing for a 'VVIP' arrival, records show.

The following day, another contract was issued for $33,457 to house a Secret Service team at La Mamounia, a palatial hotel whose past guests include Winston Churchill and the Kardashians.

Neither record names Ivanka, but she is the only Secret Service protectee known to have been in Morocco during that period. Trump family members are regularly described as 'VVIPs' in the same contracting database.

The combined $93,000 hotel bill does not include agents' salaries, flights, meals or local transportation. A spokesperson for Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, said they did not have an immediate comment.

However, a family source defended Ivanka's use of the Secret Service bodyguards available to 'every child and grandchild of the president.'

'The Iranians said they wanted to kill her, wouldn't you want the best protection possible?' they told the Daily Mail, referencing a May report that an Iran-linked Iraqi militant had threatened to assassinate Ivanka to avenge the killing of Iranian military chief Qasem Soleimani.

Once a White House adviser to her father, Ivanka no longer has any official ties to the US government. Her husband, however, has remained involved in Trump's Middle East peace efforts, spearheading plans to rebuild Gaza and establish post-war governance.

The source would not say why Ivanka traveled to Marrakech on a trip which coincided with her 45th birthday on October 30. They said that she returned to the US in time for election day.

Ivanka has visited Morocco before, in 2019 on an official diplomatic mission promoting women's rights, and again in 2022 on a family vacation.

A representative for the US Secret Service told the Daily Mail that 'from a Secret Service standpoint, we're always with our protectees,' but declined to comment further on Ivanka's latest trip.

Local media described her Morocco trip as a 'private retreat.'

The former White House adviser was spotted leisurely strolling through Marrakech in an ivory outfit and wide-brimmed sunhat during her private Moroccan getaway, according to local outlet Le360.

The mother-of-three was reportedly relaxed and composed as she walked alongside other travelers in Jemaa El-Fna square.

Rates at the Sofitel in Marrakech, located just blocks from Jemaa El-Fna, the city's UNESCO-listed main square, range from $315 to $660 per night for standard rooms and junior suites; high-end suites and penthouses can exceed $5,300.

The property features five swimming pools, a traditional Moroccan hammam and 'true relaxation,' Sofitel tells prospective guests.

La Mamounia, which is a three-minute walk from the Sofitel, costs between $440 per night for a standard room and can reach more than $8,600 for a private riad, or traditional villa.

An 18th-century palace once owned by Morocco's royal family, guests have included Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela and the Kardashians.

L'Asiatique by Jean-Georges, one of La Mamounia's four onsite restaurants, offers a two-course Peking Duck meal for 2,500 dirhams, or about $680.

Ivanka's getaway came days before anger over rising living costs, government spending and the war in Iran drove voters to deliver a bruising verdict on her father and the Republican party in Tuesday's midterm elections.

Democrats swept the GOP out of power in both chambers of Congress, flipping Senate seats in historically Republican strongholds like Texas, Kansas and South Carolina.

By Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance had offered a blunt assessment, acknowledging that voters who backed Trump in 2024 had switched sides, frustrated by the war, inflation and the cost of living.

Trump, meanwhile, used his first public appearance after the crushing defeat to show off his unfinished $600 million White House ballroom, praising its planned marble floors, Corinthian columns and bulletproof glass, then signed a steel beam before workers hoisted it into place.

Only after promoting the construction project did he address the historic Republican losses, telling reporters the outcome would have been different had his own name been on the ballot.

'If I was on the ballot, we would have won,' Trump said on Wednesday. 'We weren't able to transfer the love to candidates.'

Federal law authorizes Secret Service protection for a sitting president's immediate family, including adult children, regardless of whether they hold government roles.

But government watchdogs have called on the Trump family to reimburse taxpayers for Secret Service expenses. Scott Amey of the Project on Government Oversight argued in 2020 that the wealthy family could easily afford to cover the costs themselves.

At the same time, the Trump family reportedly charged the Secret Service as much as 300 percent above the authorized government per diem during a stay at one of the president's own hotels.

Last year, Trump, who extended his own family's Secret Service protection by six months after ceding the White House to Joe Biden in 2021, unilaterally ended the Secret Service details assigned to Biden's adult children, Hunter and Ashley, upon retaking the presidency in 2025.

Meanwhile, Trump's grown kids, and wife, have made headlines in years past for the hefty costs associated with bodyguarding them on vacations or personal business trips.

In 2018, Ivanka and husband Jared Kushner holidayed in the Dominican Republic, which cost US taxpayers nearly $60,000 in hotel fees for their Secret Service escorts.

The long weekend getaway followed a ski trip in 2017 the couple took to Vancouver, Canada, with their children that set the American public back $59,654 for their Secret Service detail's hotel rooms, plus $6,884 for 'multi-day ski passes.'

In 2025, the agency spent more than $40,000 on rental cars and hotel rooms as the president's sons pursued business deals in Qatar and Saudi Arabia during a government shutdown that put thousands of federal employees out of work for 43 days.
