A Missouri Democratic lawmaker was arrested just one day after cruising to reelection, accused of threatening to kill a man during a disturbing confrontation in the state capital.
State Rep. Anthony Ealy Jr., 32, was taken into custody Wednesday in Jefferson City after police responded to reports of threats and disorderly behavior near an apartment building.
The arrest came less than 24 hours after Ealy secured another term representing Missouri's 36th House District, winning approximately 68% of the vote.
According to a police incident report obtained by FOX4, officers were dispatched shortly before 11:30 a.m. after a woman reported that Ealy had trespassed and threatened her and her husband.
Authorities allege that the Democratic lawmaker referenced a firearm before issuing a direct threat against the woman's husband.
"I'm going to kill you."
Multiple witnesses reportedly told investigators that Ealy was yelling and causing a disturbance outside a nearby business.
Police said the witnesses corroborated accounts of the threatening behavior. The incident report also alleged that Ealy had engaged in similar conduct the previous evening.

Officers eventually located the lawmaker at his nearby residence and arrested him.
The Cole County prosecutor's office formally charged Ealy on Thursday with fourth-degree assault and disturbing the peace.
According to local reporting, Ealy appeared before a judge Friday morning for his arraignment and remained in the Cole County Jail without bond.
His booking photograph also surfaced following the arrest, adding to the attention surrounding the newly reelected Democrat.
The allegations took another troubling turn when a witness told FOX4 that Ealy had disrupted a funeral service, upsetting people who were mourning a loved one.
"It was definitely a scene; it was pretty chaotic," the witness said.
The witness also encouraged Ealy to step down from office and seek assistance.
The police report described concerns about Ealy's condition during the incident, although no medical diagnosis has been publicly established.
But the criminal allegations are only part of the controversy surrounding the lawmaker.

Missouri House Democratic leadership confirmed that Ealy had already been stripped of his committee assignments months before his arrest.
According to the chief of staff for House Minority Leader Ashley Aune, Democratic leaders removed Ealy from his committees last spring so he could address personal matters.
Leadership also indicated that his assignments would not be restored during the 2027 legislative session.

In another significant revelation, Democratic officials reportedly asked Ealy to consider stepping aside before launching his reelection campaign, allowing another candidate to seek the seat.
He declined and pursued another term anyway.
Voters subsequently returned him to office by a decisive margin Tuesday, only for the criminal allegations to emerge the following morning.
Ealy, a licensed attorney, was first elected to the Missouri House in 2022.
He represents portions of Jackson County, including Grandview, and operates Ealy Law, Notary & Consulting LLC.
According to his official legislative biography, Ealy became the first Black state representative elected from Grandview and the youngest person to represent the district.
His latest victory was supposed to secure another two years in the Missouri Legislature. Instead, the Democrat now faces criminal proceedings stemming from allegations of threatening behavior.
The arrest also raises questions about what Democratic leadership knew before Election Day, given its earlier decision to remove Ealy from legislative committees and encourage him to reconsider seeking reelection.
For now, Ealy's political future remains uncertain as the criminal case proceeds.
The Missouri Democrat won reelection Tuesday with approximately 68% of the vote, was arrested Wednesday and faced formal assault and peace-disturbance charges Thursday.
