Tesla to end production of the iconic Cybertruck in order to ramp up Cybercab line

Love it or hate it, it's time is over.

Yes, Tesla is winding down production of its beautiful, breathtaking (or alternatively, super-ugly) Cybertruck.

The Cybertruck was unveiled in 2019 as a "futuristic battle tank," and when it finally made its way onto the scene in 2023, everyone thought, "My, what a cool thing that is."

Sales, however, did not match the hype (suprise!). Here's the Financial Times:

Musk originally said Tesla would aim to produce between 250,000 and 500,000 Cybertrucks a year.

Cox Automotive estimates that Tesla sold 11,586 Cybertrucks from January to September, down 28 percent from a year earlier and representing a 1.6 percent market share in EVs in the US. Analysts had expected 22,000 Cybertrucks to be sold this year.

Amid sluggish consumer demand, Musk's rocket company SpaceX has been one of the biggest buyers of Cybertrucks from Tesla. The two companies are exploring a mega-merger, which Musk has described as 'a good idea'.

Looks aside, it's also worth noting that Tesla debuted an electric truck that starts at $76,000 at a time when historic inflation made basic necessities unaffordable, let alone used cars. Americans are driving their old vehicles longer than ever, and auto debt is set to surpass $2 trillion.

Musk has made it clear that the company's future will depend on robotaxis, humanoid robots, and whatever other crazy-wild things that man's brain can come up with!

Lead engineer Wes Morrill says the truck was "an incredible technology development platform and lives on through Cybercab."

Here's the Cybercab:

If Tesla is successful with this vehicle, it will not only replace Waymo, but Uber!
