The View hosted 21 liberal guests and just one conservative in the weeks before midterm elections, analysis finds

The View hosted 21 liberal guests and just one conservative in the weeks ahead of the midterm elections, according to a new study.

The ABC News talk show featured 21 liberals from September 8, which marked the start of the program's 30th season, through November 3, according to findings from conservative media watchdog group Media Research Center (MRC) published Friday.

Those guests included Hillary Clinton one day before the midterms, Democratic Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Democratic Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.

Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz was the sole conservative voice to appear, per the findings.

Cruz, who was the show's first guest of the new season, broke the program's two-year streak of having a liberal Supreme Court justice be its initial guest.

The View has faced a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigation in the past year over possible violations of the requirement that broadcast stations give equal on-air time to political candidates when they appear.

ABC has pushed back on the allegations, but MRC President David Bozell said the network had 'learned nothing from the FCC's continued scrutiny.'

Bozell accused The View of 'insult[ing] the intelligence of the American public by passing off pure Democratic propaganda as a 'bona fide news program.''

'With 21 anti–Republican voices and a single conservative in the two months before the midterms, ABC's political agenda could hardly be more obvious,' Bozell said in a press release.

He called on the FCC to 'hold ABC accountable for its abuse of the public airwaves for partisan political purposes.'

The findings categorized the liberal guests as those who were 'either critical of Trump or the Republican Party.'

Actors including Maisie Williams, Ethan Hawke, Chelsea Handler, Michael Douglas, Billy Crystal, Patricia Williams-Lee, D.L. Hughley, Chandra Wilson, Busy Philipps, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Eisa Davis, Jamie Lee Curtis and Sophia Bush were among those included.

Other public figures like Neil deGrasse Tyson, Stephen A Smith and Kara Swisher, who appeared with Clinton as the co-host of their new midterm-focused podcast, also appeared on the show.

During her appearance alongside Swisher, Clinton said that she thought President Donald Trump had 'become more and more unhinged.'

Clinton's remarks on the show last month received pushback from the Trump administration.

'Crooked Hillary Clinton is still whining about her spectacular 2016 election defeat,' the White House told Entertainment Weekly. 'It's time for Hillary to move on.'

North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis, a Republican who is retiring in January at the end of his current term, appeared on the show on October 5.

However, the findings noted that Tillis was not categorized as a conservative since he was 'brought on to bash Trump and his record and promote his anti–Trump book.'

Tillis, 66, published a book titled 'How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents' in October.

During his appearance on the show, he called his decision to vote for Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense as the biggest mistake of his political career.

'I don't know if [Hegseth] will be impeached,' Tillis said on the show. 'I hope he gets fired.'

The View had 56 guests in total during the length of the study. However, not every guest was included in the findings.

If someone did not discuss politics, they were not featured in the count even if they had spoken out politically in the past.

The conservative media watchdog group said last year that The View hosted 128 liberal guests compared to two conservatives.

The show has hosted other conservatives in 2026, though not in the period analyzed by the study.

Vice President JD Vance, reality star turned Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt and Trump attorney Alina Habba appeared on the show this year.

Republican Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders is scheduled to appear on The View next week.

ABC has insisted that The View is a bona fide news program after facing pressure from the FCC about whether the show is in relation to equal time rules.

The network has cited a 2002 FCC decision qualifying the show as such, meaning that The View would be exempt from equal time rules.

In May, ABC accused the Trump administration of trying to chill open political discussion by reopening the equal time question about The View.

FCC chairman Brendan Carr has also ordered an early license review for all of Disney's ABC stations.

The license renewals were not set to be considered until October 2028, and Disney has sued the FCC to block an early review.
