Alaska Republican candidate Dan Sullivan erupts at CNN's Jake Tapper over 'rigged and corrupt' election

Alaska Republican candidate Dan Sullivan erupts at CNN's Jake Tapper over 'rigged and corrupt' election

Alaska's incumbent Senator Dan Sullivan got furious at CNN's Jake Tapper when being asked about his re-election fight against Democratic hopeful Mary Peltola.

Sullivan doubled down on Republicans' anger about the Last Frontier's heated Senate race, saying there is 'nothing more rigged and corrupt than this.'

His outburst came as a New York Times report earlier this week alleged that Peltola's campaign and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee recruited a candidate sharing the name of GOP incumbent to boost the Democrat's chances.

The midterm battle, which is still ranked as a toss-up by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, turned into a dramatic saga attracting unprecedented national attention.

On Friday, US Attorney for Alaska Michael Heyman confirmed that a civil lawsuit and a criminal probe are both underway, though he did not say what crime is being investigated. The state's Republican Governor Mike Dunleavy has opened a separate probe.

Addressing Peltola's continued denial of her involvement in the controversial ballot scheme, Sullivan said: 'There's no way that this went on for a year that they weren't informing her on.'

'It's just a complete fabrication and she's got caught lying, and she's still lying to the Alaskan people, to the media, to all of us.'

However, the Republican also conceded that Sullivan said that he is still going to 'accept the election results,' even if his Democratic challenger wins.

This comes as Trump is set to arrive in Iowa to deliver remarks for what will be his second-to-last midterm rally at 4pm Eastern Time. Around four hours later, the president give his midterm blitz finale Kansas.
