The rise of socialists in the Democrat Party is a “gift” to Republicans, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said.
In a strategy memo he shared with Senate Republicans titled “The Republican Opportunity to Win Big in 2026,” Gingrich noted that “the greatest vulnerability of the 2026 Democrats is the degree to which they have become the party of Big Government Socialism and weird values.”
Several candidates endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) who support the DSA’s agenda have won Democrat primaries this election season. Those include wins in New York and Colorado, with upcoming opportunities for socialist candidates in Michigan Tuesday and Wisconsin later this month.
The Democrat Party’s embrace of these DSA-backed candidates is their “greatest vulnerability,” Gingrich wrote in the strategy memo, which was obtained by the New York Post.
“Socialism by itself has been given a new lease on life by three generations of college brainwashing. However, even most young people dislike the term big government so much that big government socialism is much less acceptable to Gen Z voters than socialism,” Gingrich said.
“The case against big government socialism: BGS does not create jobs. Does not increase wages, does not train or educate for the future, does not make people healthier, does not work. It just runs out of other people’s money to spend.”
Democrats have a chance to regain control of Congress in November’s general election, Gingrich said, but they could also face a historic “annihilation” if Republicans make it a “choice” election. He compared it to the “Jeffersonian annihilation of the Federalist Party” between 1796 and 1812.
The Post reported on July 30 that DSA activists have publicly pledged to “support” and “defend” China amid an apparent push by the communist nation to court members of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s party.
Eleven self-described DSA or DSA International Committee members are among those that “resolve to support, defend and build understanding of Chinese socialism,” The Post found.
The Post previously reported that in order to meet a rising interest in the Chinese Communist Party, the DSA launched a monthly seminar last year about “modern China and lessons for US socialists.”
Among the wild claims made during the DSA’s first CCP seminar was that China has a “strong democracy.” There was no mention of China’s tight restrictions on freedom of expression.
A few weeks before the launch of the seminar series, a five-person DSA delegation flew to Beijing to celebrate China’s 80th anniversary of the victory against Japan.
Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is unable to pay its bills, according to a New York Times report.
Party leaders have asked vendors to hold off sending invoices until after the midterms, the report said.
PJ Media’s Matt Margolis noted: “The big problem for the Democrats, of course, is the money gap with Republicans. President Donald Trump controls a $400 million super PAC. The Republican National Committee reported $128.5 million in cash on hand. The DNC is $2 million in debt. Before filing its July report, the DNC even transferred $1 million out of its 2028 convention fund to prop up its main accounts.

“The DNC has paid more than $700,000 in interest on that $15 million line of credit, averaging over $75,000 a month, and starting in January it owes $1.66 million in principal payments every month. The DNC has funneled money to its House and Senate campaign arms every cycle for more than a decade, but officials have privately told congressional leaders that won’t happen in 2026.”
Republicans who welcome Democrats nominating communists because they think they’ll be easier to beat in November should be careful what they wish for — especially if the GOP doesn’t pass the SAVE Act.
