U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Texas's only remaining Republican in a top office position, has assured his "grieving" party that it would be able to reclaim the state, so long as they start listening to voters' concerns.
Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday, Cruz (R-Texas) reflected on the Democrat Party's ability to flip several government offices held by Republicans and install candidates associated with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
Cruz, who will be up for reelection in 2030, explained how the election revealed the extent of the American public's frustrations with the quality of life under the current administration, with many believing there was not enough improvement in affordability.
"At the end of the day, if you're failing at the kitchen table, you're not getting the job done," he said. "Millions of voters in Texas and all across the country, they expressed that profoundly."
"I will say to every elected Republican, we need to listen to what the voters said, listen to their frustration, and be working to lower gas prices, lower food prices, lower interest rates, help people succeed and provide for their families. They can worry about everything else after they're able to meet their basic needs."
Despite frustrations with Republicans, Cruz noted the mourning he observed across Texas in the days since the Governor's mansion and other Senate seats were filled with Democrat candidates on Tuesday.
"The last two days in Texas, as I've traveled the state, I've just encountered people who are grieving. They're in shock," he remarked. "They may have been angry, but they did not anticipate this tidal wave nationwide electing radicals to the Senate, giving the Democrats a stranglehold on the Senate and Texas flipping blue."
Cruz reassured those watching from home, including those "in tears" after the elections, that Texas can come back from its new Democrat leadership.
"We're going to turn Texas around. Texas will be red again, and we are going to turn this country around," Cruz stated.
The senator seemed to see the election results as an opportunity for Democrats to self-sabotage with radical policies that worsen, rather than improve, the cost of living. Addressing "everyone who was pissed off at high prices," he said that "things are about to get much worse," which could create a pathway for Republicans to differentiate their free-market capitalist policies from the socialist policies adopted by the left.
"They don't want gas prices at $4, $5, $6, they want them at $10, $12, $15. They want to ban the gasoline engine," Cruz warned. "If the Democrats have their way, they are going to drive costs up."
"In this darkness, perhaps the one silver lining is we know the Democrats are going to overreach. They're going to overreach in Texas, they're going to overreach in Washington. That's going to do a lot of damage for Americans and Texans," he explained. "And I grieve for that, but out of that damage, we are going to turn this country around and we're going to do it by actually standing up for free market principles, standing up for jobs, standing up for people's families, standing up for common sense against the Marxists and Islamists who are now driving the agenda of the Democrat Party."
