At approximately 12:57 a.m., the Berwick Police Department responded to 407 School St. following a report of criminal mischief.

The caller claimed that she arrived home to find a box on her porch with text on it reading “leave now.”

The box reportedly had the address of the neighboring 409 School St. on it.

The caller also reported that a can of paint had been thrown through her window.

Officers responded to the scene and interviewed the victim.

While speaking with the victim, officers allegedly heard shots being fired from 409 School St.

Police removed the victim from the area and requested backup from the South Berwick and North Berwick Police Departments and the York Sheriff’s Department.

Law enforcement surrounded 409 School St. to contain the shooter and locked down Route 9.

Officers attempted to communicate with the resident blockaded in his mobile home, but he allegedly failed to respond.

At 2:11 a.m., he allegedly fired more shots out of his home, though police did not specify whether they believe he was trying to hit officers.

The Southern Maine Special Response Team then responded to the scene, and the suspect reportedly surrendered.

He was identified as Tyler Carpenter, 25, of 409 School St., and charged with reckless conduct with a firearm.

Carpenter was transported to the York County Jail, where he was held on $25,000 bail.
