Kansas law would require kids to be potty trained before kindergarten

Kansas, we're really having to legislate this?

Yep, this is a bill in the legislature telling parents they must have their kids potty trained before kindergarten.

Here's the Kansas Reflector:

Kansas lawmakers are considering a bill that would require kindergarteners to be potty trained before starting school, pulling the decision-making power about how to handle those students away from school districts.

The House bill was introduced to reduce distractions in classrooms, supporters say. Opponents worry it would create a barrier for vulnerable children to access education, and argue the decision should be left to school districts.

Vulnerable children? Are we supposed to believe it's racist or something-ist to tell parents that their kids need to know how to go peepee in the potty before they go to kindergarten?

Call me old fashioned, but I don't think it's the job of the local public kindergarten teacher to wipe your kid's butt every day.

I think mom and dad need to have that one figured out before they go to school.

Rep. Sherri Brantley, a Republican from Great Bend, introduced the bill.

'When classrooms are not pulled off task for routine hygiene emergencies, teachers can protect instructional time — a critical driver of achievement — and students benefit from consistent, uninterrupted learning,' Brantley said.

Those are big fancy words to say that they can't keep interrupting class in kindergarten to change diapers.

The author of the legislation acknowledges that accidents happen, but this is beyond accident. This is apparently routine in some schools.

The bill doesn't apply to handicapped or mentally disabled children, and it's understandable that accommodations have to be made.

This bill is solely aimed at the parents who just don't potty train their kids before kindergarten.

People are hiring nannies just to potty train their kids? Have we gotten this lazy?

In other news, I wonder if these schools are letting children use litter boxes...
