REVEALED: Ryan Tubridy and his wife Clare are expecting... Why their families are delighted by the news and when they are due to hear the pitter patter of tiny feet

Broadcaster Ryan Tubridy and his wife Dr Clare Kambamettu are expecting a baby, the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal.

A family source confirmed the happy news and indicated the child is due 'early in the New Year'.

The source told the Irish Mail on Sunday: 'This is the happiest of news for them, and for both of their families. Everyone is thrilled.

'Clare is doing great. She's thriving. But they are very private about this kind of thing. While they made a statement about the wedding, they don't want to do the same with this news.

'They want to keep it low key. They and their families have known for some time and they are all delighted.'

Ryan, 53, has two adult daughters from his first marriage, aged 27 and 21. This will be Dr Kambamettu's first child.

Ryan and Clare, 42, a clinical psychologist and a former Rose of Tralee, started to date after she appeared on his former RTÉ Radio show.

The couple were married last December at an intimate family wedding in the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel in Clifden, Co. Galway – having been engaged since the previous June.

Ryan confirmed his engagement after O'Dalaigh Jewellers in Clifden posted on social media that he had bought an engagement ring for a 'very special lady'.

Speaking on his then Virgin Media UK radio programme he confirmed the news to his listeners: 'It is a very beautiful feeling. We were surrounded by gorgeous people who we didn't know, strangers in the hotel, and people who were working around the place.

'I got a beautiful ring organised, and the weather was gorgeous.

'It was just an accumulation of a lot of lovely things happening, and I just decided "Now is the time, here we go"'.

The wedding was attended by 'close friends and family', according to Ryan's agent Noel Kelly.

Clare wore a gorgeous, traditional wedding dress with a gold-coloured belt feature, while Ryan sported a classy, navy, double-breasted suit with a green tie.

Footage posted on social media revealed the couple's first wedding dance was to Electric Light Orchestra's Mr Blue Sky.

The video – released by wedding band, The Camembert Quartet, who were his house band when he presented both Tubridy Tonight and The Late Late Show – showed Ryan and Clare enthusiastically taking to the floor before beckoning their friends, family and wedding guests to join them.

Two weeks after the wedding Ryan confirmed he was returning home to live in Dublin, and he now travels for work to London.

Speaking last December announcing the move he told the Irish Daily Mail: 'I've just literally moved my life in London back to Dublin in six cases. It would make a good podcast.'

He now presents Times Radio live from London every Sunday afternoon.

Ryan also has a very successful podcast The Bookshelf with Ryan Tubridy during which he interviews famous faces about the books that shaped their life. And he writes a column for the Irish Mail on Sunday.
