Listen to pediatrician's eerily calm call after daughter, 4, 'drowned' in vacation rental pool that ended in her being charged with murder

Chilling new 911 audio captured a pediatrician who allegedly murdered her daughter calmly telling dispatchers that her child had accidentally fallen into a swimming pool and was 'not moving.'

Dr Neha Gupta, 36, was heard telling 911 that she woke up in their rental home in El Porta, Florida to find her daughter Aria Talathi, 4, at the bottom of their swimming pool on June 27, 2025.

The Oklahoma pediatrician said she believed her daughter accidentally fell into the pool, and told the dispatcher: 'I tried to get her out.'

'We were sleeping and I heard some noise. She was in the pool, I tried to save her but I don't know how to swim. She went down in the pool,' she calmly explained.

Asked if she or anybody else was able to get her daughter out of the pool, Gupta replied it was 'just me' at the home, and said: 'I tried my best to get her out.'

She then told 911 that her daughter was not conscious, saying: 'No, she's at the bottom of the pool... She's not moving.'

As Gupta told 911 again she couldn't save her daughter because she couldn't swim, the dispatcher pleaded with her that she 'has to try' to bring her out of the water.

'Is there like a stick, like a pool stick, like if you're cleaning out the pool?' the dispatcher asked. 'You need to try to get her out of the water.'

Prosecutors allege that Gupta staged the scene as an accidental drowning, but claim evidence suggests she smothered her daughter to death before placing her in the water.

Gupta is facing first-degree murder charges, which were briefly downgraded to manslaughter in August before prosecutors opted to escalate the charges again to murder.

She and her daughter were visiting Florida from their home in Oklahoma when the tragedy unfolded. Following the death of her daughter at the rental home, Gupta returned to her home for two weeks before she was was arrested and extradited on July 2.

Prosecutors allege that she killed her daughter as she was in the midst of a bitter custody battle with her ex-husband.

Gupta has denied killing her daughter, and the doctor's attorney Michael Mirer told NBC6 last year that she insists her daughter's death was a tragic accident, arguing investigators 'rushed to judgment' in arresting her.

'Our position from day one has been that Dr. Gupta did not intentionally harm her child, that her child tragically got out of the locked door and fell into the pool, accidentally,' Mirer said.

Prosecutors had previously alleged that Gupta had waited 10 minutes before calling 911 when she found her daughter in the pool.

Gupta's attorney argued that she was using the time to try and save her daughter from the pool, with the newly revealed 911 audio showing she had told dispatchers she tried to wade into the water, but couldn't swim.

When questioned about the tragedy, Gupta claimed her daughter was up late and fell into the pool after having a late dinner.

A medical examiner later found that Aria had no food in her stomach, and her lungs were dry - indicating that she did not drown, prosecutors said.

Mirer argued that medical examiners could not establish an official cause of death, and said prosecutors alleging that Gupta smothered her daughter was premature before an official ruling.

It comes as surveillance footage first released by Local10 showed the mother and daughter on their vacation in Aria's final days, including Gupta changing her daughter's diaper in their driveway hours before allegedly murdering her.

Other surveillance showed Gupta carrying her daughter inside as they arrived at the home, appearing to lovingly hug her and showing no signs of the horror that would unfold days later.

Video from the home security system then showed a huge law enforcement presence descended on the home after Gupta's 911 call, including several cop cars and a firetruck.

Aria was then stretchered out of the home and raced to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

When she was arrested at her Oklahoma home weeks later, Gupta was seen in bodycam footage hiding in a laundry room when police raided her property.

Gupta remains behind bars in Florida ahead of he trial, which has not been scheduled.
