Former "American Idol" contestant charged with killing wife after telling cops that someone broke in and shot her

"Somebody broke into my home and shot my wife," Caleb Flynn told 911 dispatchers early Monday morning,

And when police showed up, that's kind of what it looked like.

But, uhh, now we have this 👇

Here's what the original story looked like yesterday:

The husband of a Christian teacher who was shot and killed in her home while her children were asleep made the 911 call alerting authorities.

According to police dispatch logs obtained by News Center 7, authorities responded to reports of a burglary at Ashley and Caleb Flynn's Tipp City, Ohio, home in the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 16.

'Someone broke into the RP [reporting person's] house, unknown if they are still there. Garage door is open,' the dispatcher said. 'There was apparently a female shot in the head. Is not responding currently.'

Not extremely relevant to the story, but Caleb was on American Idol back in 2013. And he did talk about how much he loves his wife during the show. But it's been a while since that interview, so.

Here's that 911 audio from Monday morning:

And here's what we know now from today's story:

Caleb Flynn, 39, has been charged with murder in relation to the death of Ashley Flynn, his wife. Ashley, who was a mother, teacher and volleyball coach, was shot and killed in her Tipp City, Ohio, home early on Monday morning. According to WHIO, dispatch logs indicated someone inside the house called 911 and reported that Ashley was shot in the head.

Caleb Flynn has been charged with murder, two counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of tampering with evidence. He was booked into the Miami County Jail at 5:07 p.m. on Thursday, according to inmate records. He was arraigned on Friday morning and pleaded not guilty. His bond was set at $2 million. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 26 at 1:00 p.m.

Flynn entered a not guilty plea. His lawyer says he didn't do it, and that, "When the government runs out of leads or can't develop leads and looks at a surviving spouse in cases such as these, the chance of a wrongful conviction increases."

He has a point, but this isn't looking good for Caleb Flynn.
