HungryPanda driver stabbed to death while collecting a food order in Melbourne - as Aussie workers fear violence while on the job

A HungryPanda delivery driver and father of two was stabbed to death while collecting a food order in Melbourne's CBD.

Emergency services were called to Fredrick Way following reports of a man being found with suspected stab wounds just before 8.10pm on Friday.

Despite CPR attempts, the man was declared dead at the scene.

Police said a second man, in his 30s, was discovered nearby with a suspected stab wound a short time later and taken to hospital.

Footage on social media platform WeChat showed a man collapse against a restaurant wall while another man attempted to help.

The Good Samaritan can be heard calling for towels 'to apply pressure' to the wound while a woman can be heard saying, 'Get an ambulance.'

'He's a father of two. His children are still in China,' a witness who knew the deceased told the Herald Sun.

'He was working all day here, trying to feed his family. He delivered food to me before. I know this guy. I can recognise his face.'

The witness described seeing the footage of the aftermath, adding that he would never have expected an incident like this in Australia.

'I couldn't breathe,' he said.

'I thought Australia was a wealthy, developed country. This is something I never expected.'

Following the death, HungryPanda published a statement saying it was deeply saddened by the tragic incident.

'Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,' it said.

'We have established a dedicated response team and are actively reaching out to his family to offer the necessary assistance and support.

'The safety and wellbeing of every delivery rider remain among our highest priorities. We are also providing guidance and support to our rider community during this difficult time.'

According to a recent survey of 250 delivery riders and drivers by law firm Slater and Gordon, two-thirds (65 per cent) of food delivery workers are concerned about their safety while working.
