Ana Navarro tried to make a final pitch for Democrats before Election Day.
Instead, she gave the internet a brand-new unit of measurement: the gallon of ground beef.
In a video posted Monday, the co-host of The View urged voters to throw Republicans out while arguing that everyday costs remain too high. During that appeal, she declared that ground beef costs "$6.30 a gallon."

Ground beef, of course, is sold by the pound.
That slip quickly swallowed Navarro's intended message as viewers imagined filling up their cars with hamburger meat or hauling jugs of beef home from the grocery store.
.30 for a gallon of ground beef is a great price! I don't know what she's upset about.

And I see gasoline where I live for less than .00 a pound!
The joke landed because Navarro's number was strangely close to a real grocery statistic — she simply attached the wrong unit.
The latest available national data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, sourced from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, put the September average for 100% ground beef at about $6.79 per pound. That was down slightly from the record-setting August reading of roughly $6.92, but still about 7% higher than one year earlier.
The government's separate series for lean and extra-lean ground beef came in even higher at about $8.46 per pound. BLS representatives collect those prices each month across 75 urban areas for the Consumer Price Index, giving voters a real national benchmark instead of one store's sale price.
Those numbers confirm the serious part of Navarro's message: beef remains painfully expensive for American families. Her $6.30 figure was in the neighborhood of the actual per-pound average, but she attached it to a gallon — a measure of volume normally associated with gasoline or milk.
Ana Navarro pushing the filter button to 11 while talking about ground beef being “Six thirty dollars per gallon” is Amy Acton-level WTF… https://t.co/YhpIGYnQEn

The Gateway Pundit first highlighted the viral mistake and the wave of jokes that followed.
The political context makes the clip even more remarkable.
Navarro occupies what ABC presents as a Republican voice on The View. Her official biography at ABC says she remains a registered Republican, even as she used her closing pre-election message to ask viewers to vote for Democrats.
ABC named Navarro a permanent co-host in 2022 after years of appearances as a contributor and guest co-host. The network describes her as a political strategist with expertise in Florida and Hispanic issues, and notes that she served as national Hispanic co-chair for John McCain's 2008 campaign before briefly holding the same role for Jon Huntsman in 2012.
That résumé explains why the show can market her as a Republican perspective. It also makes a direct appeal for Democratic votes on the eve of the midterms more politically notable than the same message from an openly Democratic host.
The contradiction was already enough to invite scrutiny. The gallon-sized mistake turned her serious campaign pitch into an instant punchline.
There is a real debate to have about grocery bills, inflation and which party deserves voters' trust on the economy. Navarro's video could have joined that debate.
Instead, America is now wondering how many burgers one gets to the gallon.
