Mike Rogers Picks Up Another Democrat Endorsement On Election Eve

Just hours after Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) announced her endorsement of former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) for the U.S.

Senate seat in her state, another Michigan Democrat announced he had crossed party lines and backed Rogers as well.

Former Rep. Hansen Clarke posted a joint announcement with his wife of nearly 20 years, Choi Clarke — and in the attached photo, both wore stickers that said "I'm cool. I voted."

"Choi Clarke and I stand with Congresswoman Haley Stevens in supporting Mike Rogers for the U.S. Senate," Clarke captioned the photo. "I served with Mike in the U.S. House of Representatives. I know that he is committed to improving the quality of our lives, protecting our nation's security, and working with Democrats to get the job done."

Stevens, who said she is still a "proud Democrat," told CNN anchor Anderson Cooper on Sunday that she had only recently concluded she could not support her former primary opponent, Abdul El-Sayed. She said she had watched El Sayed become "angrier and angrier" as the campaign progressed, raising concerns about his views on Israel and his continued association with radical Twitch streamer and communist sympathizer Hasan Piker.

She previously voiced her disapproval over an ad promoting El-Sayed that blamed U.S. military aid to Israel for the affordability crisis facing American families. She condemned the ad — and called on El-Sayed to do the same, but he did not.

"This type of fearmongering about Israel is wrong. It is not a winning strategy for any state. It does nothing to help Michigan Democrats win up and down the ballot in eight days," Stevens said at the time. "Do we need to lower costs by building more homes, securing people's health care, and creating a fairer federal tax code? Yes, we do!! How we do so is not by blaming the high costs of our goods on the only Jewish homeland in the world. I want to see Democrats succeed at every level, and that means keeping our focus on lowering costs for Michigan families and reining in this out-of-control President."

Stevens also told reporters Sunday that El-Sayed had told her she was not welcome on his campaign.
