Midterms, Movies, And More: Your November News Lookahead

Midterms, Movies, And More: Your November News Lookahead
Listen Listen 5 min

Happy Monday, everyone, and welcome to The Daily Wire's first-ever monthly news lookahead.

You may have noticed that there's a lot going on. Keeping up with the firehose of news can be daunting, even for those of us who do it for a living. But with a little planning, you can predict (some of) what's coming down the pike and prepare (a little) for big events.

So, at the start of every month, I'm going to bring you along with me as I plan out the coming month, with a little help from my sidekick, the whiteboard.

And what better month to start with than November! We kick off with a time change and a consequential election and end with the start of the holiday season. Let's get started, so you have something to bring to Thanksgiving dinner besides the green bean casserole.

November 1

Happy Daylight Saving to all who celebrate eating dinner in the dark at 5:00 p.m., aka Senator Tom Cotton.

President Donald Trump leaked Cotton's personal phone number on social media after the Senator blocked an effort to pass the Sunshine Protection Act, the bill that would have abolished daylight saving time.

Despite the bill passing the House of Representatives, it never made it to the Senate floor even with Trump's efforts and the many Americans who took the President up on his suggestion to call Cotton to reverse his decision.

So, here we are — changing the microwave clock again.

November 3

The day we've all been waiting for…the midterm election.

Up for grabs are all 435 House seats and 35 Senate jobs — a third of the Upper Chamber, plus the Florida and Ohio seats vacated by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Add 36 governorships, and that's 506 major offices on the ballot.

Polls are pointing to a Democrat takeover, but hey, the polls have been wrong before, and they could be wrong again. Those same polls telling you that James Telefreako is going to win also told you that Kamala Harris would be the first woman President. We'll see what happens.

November 4

The official start of the 2028 Presidential Election.

Just kidding! But not really. It's coming sooner than you think — and yours truly might be breaking one of the contenders. Stay tuned.

November 6

Jobs Report. We find out how many jobs the economy added in October and where unemployment stands. If we get a strong report, it is likely that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates.

November 6 is also the deadline for House Republicans to declare whether they're running for party leadership.

November 9

The 119th Congress returns for its lame-duck session, so we get to watch lawmakers who were just fired by their constituents work alongside colleagues who won re-election. Awkward!

If Democrats win control, they'll have an incentive to save their biggest priorities for January, when their new majority takes over. Republicans, meanwhile, could be racing to get things done before handing over the keys.

November 10

House Republicans elect their new leadership for the next Congress. Democrats have yet to announce when they are electing their House leadership.

We also get October's inflation data.

November 11

Veterans Day and The Daily Wire's new movie, "Confession," written by Ben Shapiro and starring Rob Lowe and James Franco, is out. You won't want to miss it.

Friday The 13th

No, you aren't having déjà vu. We're getting another inflation report, this time from the Consumer Price Index's lesser-known cousin, the Producer Price Index.

Consumer inflation measures inflation from the customer's side, and producer inflation measures inflation from the seller's side. It's especially interesting under the Trump administration as watching both numbers can give us clues about whether businesses are passing tariff costs on to consumers — or whether the buck stops at the producer.

Mid-November

Sometime in mid-November, Anthropic — better known to some of you as the company that owns Claude — is reportedly targeting its stock market debut. There's no confirmed date yet, but it could become the largest IPO in history, taking the crown from SpaceX, which went public in June at a $1.77 trillion valuation.

November 25

New GDP estimate drops. We get an updated look at how the economy performed from July through September.

November 26

Thanksgiving.

November 27

Black Friday and new insight into consumer shopping trends. This year will be especially interesting given Americans' concerns around affordability.

November 30

This year's Cyber Monday will have a bit more drama than usual as the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments over whether someone whose asylum status was terminated can still apply for a green card through the asylum pathway.
