Louisiana Attorney General (AG) Liz Murrill announced that the state was launching an investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former White House chief medical adviser, after his Senate hearing regarding COVID-19 last week.
Murrill’s announcement follows Florida AG James Uthmeier’s disclosure that his office was also opening a probe into Fauci after the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times during his appearance before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Wednesday.
“Fauci lied. Louisiana and Missouri deposed Dr. Fauci. At the time, he claimed to not recall many key details of his own actions and now we are discovering contemporaneous records he kept,” Murrill wrote on social media Saturday.
“Louisiana will join Alabama & Florida in investigating Fauci and whether he committed any other offenses that could be pursued in our State courts,” she continued.

Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), who is running for Alabama governor, also told Fox News that if he were elected, he would seek to pursue charges against Fauci, in an effort to obtain clarity regarding the events of the pandemic.
The announcements and hearing come after the release of more than a thousand pages of Fauci’s diary from the COVID pandemic which appear to show discrepancies between his public and private statements. Although Fauci had received a preemptive pardon from then President Joe Biden in 2025, he still refused to answer the senators’ questions during the hearing.
However, Tuberville had told Fox News that the “‘pardon’ signed by Joe Biden’s autopen doesn’t apply to state-level crimes,” meaning state prosecutors could still potentially bring state-level charges against Fauci, as presidential pardons only apply to federal offenses.
