Two Minnesota state lawmakers and their spouses shot, resulting in two deaths

Minnesota Senator John Hoffman and Minnesota Representative Melissa Hortman -- both Democrats -- and their spouses were shot in their homes.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said Hortman, former Minnesota House speaker, and her husband were killed, ABC News reported. Hoffman and his wife, according to Walz, are expected to survive the politically motivated shooting.

A nephew of the couple, KSTP reported, said they were each shot five or six times.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted a statement from President Donald Trump on X stating that he has been briefed on the shooting.

"Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law. Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!" Trump said in the statement.

The suspect was reportedly impersonating a police officer when the shootings occurred.

A manhunt is underway for the suspect, who is described as white with brown hair and wearing black body armor, according to KSTP.
