Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., led all Democrats Saturday in a letter asking Trump to remove all military forces from Los Angeles. 

The letter, according to Axios, demanded that Trump “immediately withdraw all military personnel” that have been recently deployed in response to violent protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. 

Without state approval, Trump took over the California National Guard to help quell the riots earlier this week. The state filed a lawsuit arguing that Trump had exceeded his authority in doing so. A federal judge initially ruled in California’s favor, but a federal appeals court overturned the decision. 

The Senate Democrats, Axios reported, stated in their letter that "respect for our Constitution and for our civilian law enforcement demands nothing less.” 

On Thursday, Padilla was handcuffed and removed from a press conference that was being held in Los Angeles by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
