Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley made headlines on Sunday when he was spotted getting in a round of golf with President Donald Trump at his Bedminster Golf Club in New Jersey — and Barkley quickly made it clear to critics that he was not interested in their complaints.

Barkley took to X on Monday morning — just hours before his team was set to celebrate their Super Bowl LIX victory (40-22) over the Kansas City Chiefs — to hit back, saying, “lol some people are really upset cause I played golfed and flew to the White House with the PRESIDENT. Maybe I just respect the office, not a hard concept to understand. Just golfed with Obama not too long ago … and look forward to finishing my round with Trump ! Now ya get out my mentions with all this politics and have amazing day.”

Trump’s team shared video of the pair exiting Marine One at the airport in Morristown, New Jersey, where Trump directed Barkley off to one side before he stepped up alone to speak with reporters. “What a nice guy he is. I wanted to race him but I decided not to do it.”

Trump ribbed Barkley again during Monday’s ceremony honoring the Eagles for their Super Bowl victory, saying, “You got the ball to your superstar running back, who I met yesterday, and I want to tell you he is — he’s a handsome guy, but I wouldn’t wanna tackle him!”

“He’s great, I got to know him a little bit. I offered him a ride on Air Force One because I was coming down, and usually they say, ‘No, no, I don’t think so.’ He said, ‘I’ll take it, sir’ — and he loved it!” Trump said. “He’s a great young guy and an incredible football player.”

Several members of the team — including quarterback Jalen Hurts — did not attend the White House event due to “scheduling conflicts.”
