Michelle Obama has praised a guest on her podcast for raising a transgender child, declaring that it “warms my heart, as a black man.”

The clip from her new podcast IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson has reignited longstanding questions about her gender — and some massive trolling.

In the clip, Obama is speaking to her guest about raising a child who is transgender, which warms her heart, “particularly as a black man, you know?”

The comment was made on the April 30th episode, featuring guests Damon and Marlon Wayans, the latter of whom has a transgender child, Kai.

The rumors about Michelle Obama’s gender went mainstream in 2014 when comedian Joan Rivers, shortly before her death, told a TMZ reporter that “everybody knows” Michelle Obama [is] transgender.

Since then, government documents from Illinois have confirmed Michelle was registered to vote as a male for more than a decade until 2008, the year husband Barack was running for president.

Barack Obama himself has repeatedly slipped up, calling her “Michael” during speeches. While his brother, Malik Obama, has also confirmed the Obama family are aware of Michelle Obama’s real gender.

In 2023, Marlon Wayans revealed that his oldest daughter, a biological female, was “transgender” and identified as male.

“I have a daughter that transitioned into a son,” Marlon Wayans said on an episode of The Breakfast Club. “My daughter Amai is now Kai.”

The Obama podcast featured discussions about raising children “through challenges.”

The show, which is hosted by the former “First Lady” and her brother, is billed as candid discussions on life, relationships, and current events. However, despite an insane amount of media attention, it has struggled to gain viewers.
