Minnesota state senator John Hoffman and Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman, former state House speaker, were shot in their homes and one of them has died, according to local news report on Saturday. 

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said Hortman and her husband were killed. Hoffman and his wife were shot and wounded. 

The suspect was reportedly impersonating a police officer when the shootings occurred.

Police are in pursuit of the man, who is described as white with brown hair wearing black body armor, according to KSTP.

Walz said the shooting was politically motivated.
