Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said that two of President Trump's nominees for U.S. attorneys for New York won't advance over opposition from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Earlier this month, Schumer, a New York Democrat, said he was blocking Jay Clayton’s nomination to serve as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and Joseph Nocella Jr.'s for the Eastern District, Politico reported.
Schumer blocked the nominations by not returning his blue slip for them, which is a Senate precedent that lets senators effectively block approval for nominees to U.S. district courts and U.S. attorney’s offices in their states.
“We’re going to honor the blue slip,” Grassley, an Iowa Republican, said on Monday when asked whehter Schumer's objections would prevent the nominees from advancing.
