The U.S. economy added 147,000 jobs in June, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The gain exceeded most analyst expectations of about 100,000 additional non-farm jobs. 

The number is tied with the one in April for the most monthly job gains in 2025, according to CNBC. 

The June unemployment rate was 4.1%, slightly down from May's 4.2%, according to the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

Job gains occurred in state government and health care, while the federal government continued to lose jobs, the report also states.
