CIA director says agency is being restructured to eliminate internal politicization

CIA Director John Ratcliffe on Wednesday told President Donald Trump during a Cabinet meeting that a restructuring of the agency was underway to eliminate "well-documented politicization" within the service.

Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard both reflected on the Trump administration's efforts to depoliticize the U.S. intelligence community, which also included referring leakers of classified information to the Justice Department for prosecution.

The CIA director said he was not able to go into detail on the work that his agency has done, given the covert nature of the organization, but that a restructuring process was underway on Trump's orders, Fox News reported.

"Mr. President, the CIA is being restructured at your direction to focus on our core mission and to eliminate the political – the well-documented politicization that has taken place in the intelligence community from bad actors in the past to focus on our core mission and to Make America Safe Again," Ratcliffe said.

Gabbard said that her office is working to revoke 67 security clearances, declassify documents, and is currently investigating 11 people over alleged leaks of classified information.

"I'm grateful to have the privilege of leading the intelligence community towards ending the weaponization [and] politicization of the intelligence community [that] has gone on for far too long," Gabbard said. "We're working every day to hold the deep state accountable."
