A senior member of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee is raising concerns about possible foreign influence in Poland’s 2025 presidential election, calling on the European Commission to investigate the matter.

Rep. Brian Mast, who chairs the committee, is questioning whether European institutions overlooked or enabled efforts to sway the election in favor of liberal candidate Rafał Trzaskowski. The issue stems from a series of suspicious social media accounts that emerged during the campaign, which targeted conservative candidates while promoting content favorable to Trzaskowski, according to Politico.

Though the pages had low follower counts, they reportedly spent tens of thousands on political ads. These efforts focused on undermining right-wing candidates Karol Nawrocki and Sławomir Mentzen, raising red flags about their funding sources and strategic coordination.

"Obama, Soros, and the Globalist Left are trying to rig Poland’s presidential election. The EU shouldn’t sit silent just because it stands to benefit from this interference," a post from the Committee's X account reads.
 

“We write to express profound alarm over reported developments in Poland that may undermine the integrity of its democratic process, particularly as the country approaches the second round of its presidential election on June 1, 2025.," the letter from committee members, including Mast, to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen began.

"Reports of foreign-funded political advertisements favouring Rafal Trzaskowski, the Civic Coalition (KO) candidate backed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, that may have occurred in contravention of Polish law, combined with the Tusk government’s reported monthlong refusal to comply with court orders to release public funding to the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, suggest a deliberate effort to tilt the electoral playing field," it reads.

One area of concern involves a company called Estratos, which is allegedly connected to a shareholder with ties to the US Democratic Party.

Critics are calling for more scrutiny of whether the firm played a role in channeling outside funds into the election.

The controversy has also drawn attention due to Trzaskowski’s previous interactions with Alex Soros, the son of billionaire Democrat philanthropist George Soros. While no direct link to foreign money has been confirmed, Republican lawmakers in the US are demanding a full review to determine if any support for Trzaskowski came from Soros-backed entities or other outside interests.

At the same time, the European Commission—led by Ursula von der Leyen—is being slammed for its perceived support for Poland’s current liberal government under Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Tusk and Trzaskowski are closely aligned politically, leading to accusations that EU institutions have failed to remain neutral in internal Polish politics.
