In Osaka, Japan on Thursday a Japanese man plowed his car into a group of school children who were walking home from school. Seven children were injured. The driver, 28-yar-old Yuki Yazawa, told officers after he was arrested: "I was just sick of everything so I decided to drive my car into the elementary school students to kill them."

The 7 injured children were taken to a local hospital. Six boys and one girl were among the injured, all in second or third grade. The children were heading home for lunch after early dismissal, per Kyodo News.

The 7-year-old girl suffered a broken jaw, and the injuries across the board are not life-threatening.

Yazawa was arrested after the attack and has been held on suspicion of attempted murder. At about 1:30 pm, the car could be seen driving deliberately toward the children. A witness said that after driving into the children, Yazawa put the car in reverse to have a second run at them. Yazawa is unemployed and from Higashimurayama city in Tokyo.

A student who witnessed the incident said that the car, a white SUV, was "driving unsteadily" before it rammed into the children. "I was walking along the side of the road and the car and suddenly it almost drove into us. The second and third graders in front of me were injured and were bleeding from their heads after being trapped between the car and the wall," the student said, per The Guardian.

A mother who came to pick up her son spoke about the incident to broadcaster NHK. "The car was being driven erratically, and it seems that it continued to move forward even after it had hit the children," she said.

"My son was very shocked and has been crying the whole time. He only just started elementary school last month, and then something like this happened. It’s scary. I saw the man who had been driving the car. He was very quiet and appeared to be in a daze."

After the children were injured, teachers went to the car and pulled Yazawa out of his car. He waited there for police.
