HUMAN EVENTS: Americans voted for mass deportation—Republicans can't back down now

Democrats who allowed Biden's border crisis to blossom over his four years in office, who did not enforce immigration laws, are now trying to block the fixing of the problem they facilitated. Republicans can't back down now.

The Trump Administration, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, has made illegal immigration a top priority during his second term. It was a key campaign promise during his re-election campaign and has wide approval of the American people. Illegal border crossings have reached an all-time low, mass deportations are underway, and poll after poll shows that this is what Americans want.

Legacy and left-leaning media outlets have backed Democrats in their complaints and bolstered Democrat claims that these deportations should not be happening and they've taken up the case of the individual they call "Maryland man," MS-13 member Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, as their cause celebre.

Abrego Garcia was deported to El Salvador in March and sent to the CECOT prison. He's an Salvadoran citizen, who entered the US illegally in 2012, and has been residing in Maryland with his wife and children. In 2019, he was picked up as part of an investigation into gang activity in that state. He was found outside a Home Depot consorting with other gang members, wearing gang-affiliated clothing.

He was slated for deportation at the time, albeit with a withholding protection saying that he could not be sent to El Salvador due to his fear of violence in that nation. He was not deported despite his eligibility. In 2021, his wife filed an order of protection against him for domestic abuse. In 2022, he was stopped in Tennessee on suspicion of human trafficking.

After taking office, President Trump declared MS-13, Tren de Aragua, and other international cartels and gangs to be terrorist organizations. Since at the time of his arrest in 2019 Abrego Garcia was identified as a member of MS-13, his deportation was scheduled. He was sent to El Salvador, and this, the DOJ admitted at the time, was an administrative error.

However, as he is an El Salvadoran citizen, he has been housed in their prison and is subject to that nation's laws. Abrego Garcia is now under the jurisdiction of his home country. Democrats, including Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen, have demanded his return. El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele has said that there's no mechanism to return him legally to the US as he has no legal status there.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller has argued that Trump’s executive orders that protect national security in targeting terrorist groups like MS-13 “allow for expedited removal of suspected gang members without traditional due process,” protecting the administration’s actions from being overruled by any federal court.

Van Hollen traveled to El Salvador and met with Abrego Garcia. In photos, Abrego Garcia's gang tattoos are visible across his knuckles. When Van Hollen was asked by CNN's Dana Bash if Abrego Garcia is a gang member, Van Hollen admitted that he hadn't even asked the man, saying instead he "knew what his answer would be." So too would his wife, who in sharing a photo of herself and Abrego Garcia on social media used cartoon hearts to cover the gang tattoos.

Conservatives have no better example of how Democrats feel about the rest of the nation than how they have praised Garcia, making him out to be an idyllic husband and father, despite his previous arrests, despite the order of protection from his wife. Democrats picked one man, one case to hold up as their Holy Grail of injustice, but if anything, Garcia's case shows why it's essential for the Trump administration to make use of immigration law to remove criminal illegal immigrants from the country.

Americans roundly voted for mass deportation, for the removal of gang members, criminals, human traffickers, from the United States. They voted for the borders to be closed, for Biden's border actions to be undone, and if Democrats want to celebrate and honor those who are being deported, they do so at the expense of the American people.

Republicans need to be unafraid to say that Democrats are siding with crime, murderers, and terrorists, such as MS-13, over the safety of American citizens. This will show them to be the Marxist sycophants they are. Only people who hate the nation, her, people and her laws would advocate to bring criminal illegal immigrants back into the United States. Republicans can't shy away from pointing that out.
